A Reflection on 9/11

Today is an emotional day for me.
I'm not going to talk about the Quran burning.
Nor the sacrilegious efforts to build a mosque so near ground zero in NYC.
Today, on this the 9th anniversary of the horrendous attack on our country, I am going to pause and offer prayers for those victims and their families who are still coming to grips with their losses.
Seeing all the reminders of that senseless tragedy, only brings more anger and emotion to the surface. Hearing Taps played in NYC against a backdrop of ruin, sends shivers up my spine.
We must never forget that day; not that we could. Watching those families call out the names of their loved ones and total strangers that they didn't know before 9/11 happened, is a brisk reminder of what price they are paying. And will continue to pay as they come to terms with the tragedy that forever changed their lives and the lives of all Americans.
While I didn't know anyone who was in the towers that day, I feel deeply about this event and nine years hasn't lessened those feelings. The terrorists may have destroyed those buildings, but they will never destroy the spirit that is America. We are a resilient people. We've come through tragedies before: the American Revolution (another lengthy war); the Civil War that pitted brother against brother; the bombing of Pearl Harbor; the assassination of 5 presidents; all horrific times in our country's history.
We rise up and unite together to defeat our enemies because we are The United States of America. And let no man, Muslim, Jew or Christian, think that he can destroy this country's spirit.
We take pride in the band of brothers and sisters that we became on 9/12. Sadly, a lot of that spiritual healing has disappeared and we've gone back to the divisive way that we knew before 9/11 happened. That is a sad fact and one not to be proud of.
We have soldiers trying to take apart the Taliban that once protected Usama Bin Laden and his evil Al Qaeda network. And we can only pray that one day he will pay for the atrocities he committed in the name of religion on 9/11.
Most of us know and believe in God and in our hearts, we know that God is a just God. No one believes that a religion's main tenet is to kill other human beings. Life is God's greatest gift and only He has the right to take it away.
God bless America and the families impacted by the 9/11 tragedy. May they find peace and relief from their pain. ~ One Voice
